It's always been my view that in order to qualify as a meet, a gathering of LCCC members needs to number at least two. So as Stephen Shorrock and Katie Towers walked through the door at Pete's Eats in Llanberis I ticked the box, mission accomplished. The ecstasy compounded as the pitiful forecast proved so inaccurate. Had I compiled it I would hold my head in shame, a typical example of our meteorologists crying wolf! On the run up to the weekend things looked promising as several members showed an interest in the 'slate' however as Thursday turned to Friday quite understandably one by one the cancellations came. 'I don't blame you was my cry!'
Post breakfast we headed to Australia, the popular end of Dinorwig for Katie's first outing on Slate. Stephen left in charge as I set off on a circuit of the grey stuff, my mission to capture images, promised to Malc Baxter for over ten months. Apart from one brief and very light shower the sun Shon and the temperature rose. To add to the forecaster’s misery on leaving the Veynal Arms there was not a cloud in the sky, Llanberis Pass lit by a mass of stars.
It just goes to show that given a chance the underpaid weather girls of the BBC all too often cry wolf, only to be left with egg on their faces. Club meets are not a popularity contest as this weekend proved, the smallest of groups can often have copious amounts of fun. Many thanks to Katie and Stephen for keeping me company, it's always a pleasure.
Thanks also to the club slatehead’s Ian S, Rob H, Nathan R, Gary W, Tony M and Mike B for their apologies and letting me know your intentions.
Ps Stephen, Katie and I all agreed the facilities at the camp site are pitiful. ... See MoreSee Less
